Smith Lake
Lewis Smith Lake is located in north central Alabama near Cullman and covers 21,200 acres. The lake is clear and deep, with 500 miles of shoreline. The many creeks feeding Smith are too numerous to name.
The predominate black bass species is the spotted bass. It’s a fish that likes open water and roams in wolf packs. They were always difficult to find until live sonar arrived.
Even so, winning tournament anglers usually have at least one largemouth in their bag.
Smith Lake also offers excellent fishing for striped bass. Live shad are the preferred bait.
