Bankhead Lake covers 9,200 acres and is the second largest lake on the Warrior River. It lies 15 miles west of Birmingham and 30 miles northeast of Tuscaloosa and flows through Walker, Jefferson and Tuscaloosa counties.
Bankhead’s shoreline is highly developed with private residences and commercial marinas. Boating and fishing are popular on the lake.
There are five public facility use areas and fourteen user fee areas on Bankhead’s shores.
The lake is best known for largemouth and spotted bass. Biologists report excellent growth rates for crappie with plenty of large size fish.
In addition to bass and crappie, Bankhead offers excellent fishing for hybrid striped bass, rainbow trout, catfish and bream.
Fishing for skipjack is also excellent.
